The Permanent Collection
It all started when...
WHO?: Matt Harkins and Viviana Olen are two comedians and roommates living in New York City. One night they watched a documentary on Netflix called The Price of Gold by Nanette Burstein and if you haven't seen it then please drop everything you are doing and go watch it.
WHAT?: Okay, now that you've seen the documentary you know about two of the world's greatest athletes: Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. By now you probably have a lot of opinions about both of them. So did we. In fact, we had so many opinions that we decided to turn the hallway of our apartment into The Tonya Harding Nancy Kerrigan 1994 Museum. Visit our Kickstarter to see how the saga unfolded. Many internet strangers reached out and made us art and donated artifacts! We keep them in the hallway and try our best to remember to dust in there.
WHY?: Why Not? Did you watch the documentary? Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan are two of the worlds most well known athletes who did more in their young lives than we ever will (ex: we are still weighing pros and cons of spending $ on a microwave). They were both swept up in the media coverage of the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics in Norway after Nancy was attacked leaving the US Championships in Detroit. One thing Nanette Burstein's documentary does so well is tell the story of these two athletes apart from all of the coverage. Hopefully our museum does the same.
WHERE? Much like all great recluses, we are located in a TOP SECRET LOCATION. While we are excited to focus on new exhibits that have full public access we still give tours (by appointment only) for the permanent collection, contact us if you’re interested and we will do our best to accommodate you!
The permanent collection opened April 18th, 2015 with an opening gala at Standard Toykraft in Brooklyn.
